How to Distinguish Real Pearls and Fake Pearls

Pearls, with their elegant luster, are beloved jewelry items. However, the market is flooded with fake pearls, so mastering identification skills is essential.
When distinguishing real pearls from fake ones, first observe the luster and surface. Real pearls have a soft, warm luster with subtle color variations, and their surfaces often have tiny natural flaws like small spots or lines. Fake pearls, usually made of plastic or glass, have a rigid, uniform luster without such natural imperfections.

Second, check the
weight. Real pearls feel heavier in the hand due to their natural composition, while fake ones are lighter.

Third, listen to the
sound. Gently rub two real pearls together; you’ll hear a faint, gritty sound. Fake pearls, when rubbed, produce a smooth, dull noise.
